Kickstarter Watch: Reich Busters by Mythic Games

It is late December 1944 and Allied forces have got the Nazis on the ropes. However the discovery of a miraculous energy source called Vril may well throw a spanner in the works.
Nazi secret experiments on the substance lead by the Vrilmeisters, are a threat not just to the outcome of the war but to the whole world!

If they learn how to harness this power who can stop them?
Who else but the Reich Busters...

Mythic Games are back on Kickstarter with a brand new game Reich Busters lets take a look at this new campaign.

Reich Busters is set in a weird world war setting where the Nazis are using a new energy source called Vril that can control all sorts of matter. It has the power to destroy with lighting like effects and can replenish life or rend through solid mass.

The game is a 32mm co op of 1-4 players where you take an elite over the top group of allied heroes in to battle to take on these deadly foes.

In every game you will be able to choose form a range of heroes who have different strengths, skills and equipment that you will need to use wisely to successfully infiltrate and complete your missions.

There are two types of game play one of games is called raid missions where you can customise or randomise your own unique missions. This also allows to combine heroes into teams which can allow customise play styles and access to special bounces that accrue due to the relationship of the characters.

There is also campaign play where you will be able to level up you characters using the experience you again and items you collected during the missions. The missions are changeable with variable enemies, board layouts, side-missions, special room locations and more.

As you are trying to infiltrate a Nazi strong hold and delve deeper into the castle stealth is needed and an important part of the game as if you can sneak past or kill enemy's quietly it will make your time easier.
Noise dice are rolled to see if you make any noise for example opening doors or picking up and searching an item... If you make to much noise then guards awareness rise until finally the alarm is sounded and then all hell brakes loose..

The noise tracker shows you the guards alertness...you try as much as possible to be quite until turn 6 then the guards know you are there and the alarm sounds so you need to watch how long you take to complete you objectives but make to much noise and you can get to the alarm quicker if your not too careful..

If you do make to much noise you will draw a noise card which has a noise level so if you go over you have to then read the top part of the card.
There are also two effects if the alarm is still not sounded or the bottom if it is.
This could lead to enemies spawning in your location or make a room near by more alert of your presence.

Each hero has their own tracker board which shows there basic skills and equipment they start with. You can add more items as you find them during the game or when your starting a new game.

During the game you can find medical packs, weapons, Vril healing potions (who knows how that will effect you hero?). These can also be handed to fellow players if the occupy the same space as you.

Players have two actions which can include a move or a base action. Players will also have their hero's specific card decks which will allow the players to further there base actions which can help tactically through the game.
Each hero will also have a feat which is a one time special action that can help really turn the tide of the game or get that objective.

Your enemies are controlled via an AI deck which have different option on each card depending on you alarm status and what token level is placed in a room as required from the mission map.
They also have cards for each miniature for their attacking and defence stats.

So lets have look at some of the enemies models..

When you encounter a room it will have a token which indicates the level of enemies in that room. You will draw a card which can have an array of reanimated corpse to dark experiments and ferocious mutations gone wrong to the evil Vrilmeisters.
There are even mechanical tracking bomber which are designed to walk up and denominate to big monstrosity's like the Vrilpanzer and the Shrieker.

Vrilpanzer

Shrieker & Sturmgunner
But that's not all there are expansions such as Not Of This Earth include enemy's from other worlds too and there has been hints of players being transported to other worlds...

To win a game of Reich Busters players must complete their objectives and making an exit but the way must be clear to exit as if there is an enemy in the way then a person maybe left behind and captured.
In campaign mode you may be able to do a rescue mission to get you hero back..
Hero's don't die but get captured so this would mean the players lose the game.

As this is a Kickstarter the rules and layouts etc are subject to change and from the daily live streams so far from Mythic Games (these are live around 7pm GMT on the Kickstarter page)
Leo and Az at Mythic games are really interested to engaged with backers to helps shape this game and seem only to happy to answer questions.

This Kickstarter has a relatively short run of 10 days and finishes on Friday 30th November..
At this time Mythic Games have smashed their target and have unlocked lots of stretch goals so far adding extra hero's and enemies.

There are two pledge levels the Core set for $100 where you get over 100 minis plus two Vrilpanzers or All in for $200 where you get all stretch goals plus the expansions.

These are the Heroic pledge minis painted

The All In..

Here are some of the add ons and expansions

This games is set to be delivered to backers next year November 2019 with a backer kit around January with possible extras to buy such as extra dice etc.
The rules are still not finalised yet but you can download a copy of the current rule set on the Kickstarter page.

There are plans after the Kickstarter to get this to retail and add further expansions later so who knows where the Reich Busters may end up.

My Thoughts...

This game looks amazing! The presentation of the video is one of the best for a tabletop game I have seen as well as the fantastic over the top 80s vibe, the art work and characters are fantastic and lets not forget look at all of those miniatures!!

The game play as of now looks really fun with lots of replay ability and options for different combinations of heroes and enemies you could encounter. Theres great emphasis on team work and I am sure over the coming year this will be refined through feedback and ideas from the Kickstarter backers.

So will you be backing Reich Busters?
