More Khador Winter Guard

So I have been a bit busy these past weeks but fear not I have some reviews and projects in the pipe line..
Now going through some old pictures I completely forgot that I painted another full unit of Khador Winter Guard not to long ago.

I painted these as there were just sitting there and thought why not paint a unit from a game I have played in a while.
These pictures were taken before my new camera set up which goes to show how much better my new camera is.

I went to work by painting and basing the UA and Rockets on a bit of cork and set to work painting these grey and red so they would not get mixed up with my other Winter Guard unit.

A few hours later they were done.

Hobby Holder Review.

So how do you paint your minis. Yes probably with a brush and paint but do you just hold the base of the mini to paint it?

How about using something that offers more stability when painting and could help you paint better.

Well look no further then The Hobby Holder from Game Envy Creations.

Khador Artillery Kapitan

Another loyal solider to add to my Khador force the Khador Artillery Kapitan

I think he will be useful as he give plus 2 to rat so hopefully some of my jacks/Winter Guard will benefit in future games..
Lets just hope the dice gods are kind also.

Dice Rolling & A DIY Paint Shelf.

Over the past week I have been looking around for a paint shelf to fit all my paints. Easy right well not really as it seems all the shelfs that are on sale just fit GW paint pots.
I have a mixture of dropper bottles old style GW paint post (ones with the white cap and old hexagon style) plus P3 pots which all were different sizes.

Paint On Brush...Getting the Wargaming Mojo back.

Over the last coupe of weeks I have been putting lot of stuff on ebay clearing space and trying to streamline my hobby.

After selling said minis I bought a couple of things from a face book group on the cheap. I finally got my hands on a Lord of Plagues mini which I have always really liked the look of.

Paint the town red, gold with a little silver.

On the painting table this week was my Man O War unit and Man O War Officer attachment.

I was fed up seeing them undercoated in red on the table top and thought they deserved some attention.

This was one of the first Khador units I had and it was getting little silly that they had not seen the paint brush.

I wanted to paint them quick as time at the moment is a little tight so its basic 3 colours and wash.

As these were getting painted I thought I might as well finish the unit and moved on to my recently aquired Man o War officer too.

All that needs doing now is the bases..Not bad for an hour or so of painting.

Butchers coming to get you!

After the big delivery of more minis to my door I could not wait to get the big man made with his 2 puppies.

This is an all metal kit and I could see that this many be a bit difficult to put together due to the joints in the minis.  Green stuff, super glue and my hobby drill to hand its was time to build.

It was obvious what goes where and the metal scenic part for butcher to stand on and the sand bags for one of the puppies are really nice.

I had to drill into the stand for the butcher as the holes did not match with his feet.

Lets just say its a heavy model as there is a lot of metal here. His axe arm was pinned and green stuffed to help stay in place.
I am loving the pose on this.

The puppies were in a few pieces and the heads needed a bit of green stuff to stay in place but over all not to bad.

There are some big gaps in these models but I am sure these can be sorted.

Next is adding some sand on the bases and a spray. I am going Army painter Dragon Red for butcher and Leather Brown for the dogs.

Butcher is probably my favourite caster he is big brash and he hits hard and is a tank. I can't wait to cause some havoc on the battle field.

The Lead and Plastic Continues.. Khador Man O War Officer..

It seems all I am doing is building minis at the moment.. Up next on the desk is the new Khador Man O War Officer.

Its part resin plastic part metal and has an an impressive axe.. What do you expect its Khador.

In the box one of the shoulder pads, axe, shield and heads are all metal while the main body is plastic.

Putting him together was pretty easy bit the axe and shield hand needed some green stuff and some pinning.

You get the choice of two heads one with the helmet down and one where his face is showing. I chose the later as I liked that more.

All done..
This was a pretty easy build and did not take long which is good...

Hang on a knock on my door.... I just got a delivery...

....Looks like I better keep that drill for pinning handy...

Berserker, Mad Dog, Rager Oh My....

Next up on my to build list is the new plastic kit for the Berserker, Mad Dog and Rager.

As I have said before I am a fan of these new plastic kits for PP as they are really easy to put together and magnetise.

I began by making the main body, legs and arm parts.

This kits  did not take long to get to this stage so no wonder you saw loads of these around quickly before the cost of a mad dog went up in the game.

Next thing was to stick the main body and legs together and stick it to the Evil Mushroom scenic base.

I then positioned the hands and drilled out the right size holes for the magnets to fit.

Then it was to work to make all the hands and weapons for the different jacks and drilling and gluing magnets in place.

Weapons Of Choice
Mad Dogs Fist of Doom
Ragers Sword and Shield
Berserkers Double Axe

Now all these were done its time for the heads. I have just magnetised the one for now and will get round to the others.

The only thing to do is to strike a pose as the kit is done...

So all my minis are now made...Better get some paint on them.

Magnets all over the place.. More Jacks.

This weekend I continued my Warmachine madness and grabbed my 2 Devastor, Demolisher and Spriggan kit and again got a bit magnet happy.. These are the old plastic kits and not the nice new plastic kits that Privateer Press are now using.

Hobby And Time..

Its been a few months... As things usually go things crop up and you don't get any time to dedicate to your hobby. For the past few months it has been work, DIY  and the festive activities that has stopped me playing and painting any minis.

The time off the hobby though has made me question do I really need all these games?
i know there will always be that voice in all wargamers saying yes...get that new awesome game or model but will it ever get used?

So cleaning out my hobby room I decided enough is enough lets get realistic on what I will be able to play with my local meta and am I really going to have the time to learn and play these games.

So up went load of my board games and models on Ebay and off the went.

I have decided to keep my main game as Warmachine/hordes but will also get into a bit of fantasy, blood bowl and get a few games of batman here and there*.
(*subjet to change ;) )

I think having one main game is easier to mange rule wise as I have bad memory so cutting down will I hope allow me to keep a better focus.

This weekend however I did manage to get some models made and ready for the table top, unpainted but ready.

I have a new recruits for my Khador army of a Morter Crew and a Field Gun Crew to add some more fire power to my winter guard.

Also at the back we have the FennBlade Ua and Drummer ready to march to war with my Trollbloods..

So starting to dip my toe back in and now with more room and focus on fewer games l hope I can get more minis painted and played with on the tabletop.

Ale and gaming why not.

Ed finally moved into his new flat and invited me to christen his new gaming board with some Ales thrown in. How could I say no..

It was Eds Retribution vs Khador. well Butcher...

Don't Like the look of that big fella!

Armour and more Armour

As we did not have any steam roller packs we decided just to go smash. Ed won the roll and started first.

As normal in war machine it was run run run first turn even though I tried a pop shot with my destroyer.

Ed starts to move in and his infantry start to move in position to cause my jacks some pain! then the big fella moves in!
Ed begins chipping away at my jacks but luckily the mechanics are more the up for the challenge to fix them.
I kill his mage hunter assassins and some of his infantry but they have vengeance. Its not great.

I have to feat but I can only managed minimal damage ( Khador dice rolls strike!) to his colossal  while he manages to destroy 3 heavies 2 on the charge and with models that have weapon masters and it hurts..

The only thing I can do is try to protect butcher from all sides by blocking with other models and see if I can do an epic butcher vs colossal match up.

But even with my remaining models chipping at the remains of Eds infantry and colossal butcher is defeated..

A good game that would have been a lot tighter I feel if my jacks lasted longer but Ed had favour with the dice gods and rolled well evan triple 6's at one point, but all in all a good game and happy to have the first game at his new home.

Later on in the evening I was given my christmas present from Ed
this guy!

I was given this before the errata but I was not into mad dog spam any way and can't wait to build this as I recently made a Drago out of the old metal version.
you can view this Here

Looks like christmas will be busy building as I have these two to do as well.

Better crack out the magnets.

More Jacks and chains..

This weekend I wanted to get some painting in and I wanted to do it quick while experimenting with trying to covert a warlock for my Khador army.

The plan was to convert a Bezerker jack into Drago for my Vlad list. Now I know Drago is bigger then a Bezerker especially the old metal model that I used but hey I will give it a go.

So I did my usually undercoat of army painter and set to work..well first it was a trip to Hobby Craft.
Drago has chains all over his arms and other parts of the body and some skulls around his neck as well as two axes that are the same as the Bezerker.

As my Bezerker had two different style axes my thoughts were to grab some small chain from Hobby Craft and wrap this round one axe and add some around the jack to make him more like Drago.

After I got the chain I set about glueing them into place and adding a skull necklace using some zombie heads from Mantic and a space wolves fur trophy.

When I was happy with the design i set about copying the paint scheme in some areas so you can make out what the warlock is on the table top.

So heres my attempt.

I think the chains worked out well. I used Ryza rust and Typhus Corrosion on the chain to give and old rusty warn out feel.

Its not perfect but it was a cool experiment with the chains and paint job. I decided to glue the chains on before undercoating the model which probably was the best thing to do but it did make it tricky to paint silver then rusty effect afterwards.

So another war jack is added to the ranks. My Bezerker/Drago is ready to hack and slash in the name of the mother land.
