Review: Products For Wargamers House With Tall Roof

On todays blog post I am reviewing and making some terrain from Products for Wargamers.
I met James from Products for Wargamers back at SELWG and he kindly gave me one of his buildings to review for you.

So let's take a look.

Painting & Hobby: MDF Buldings Project

I have noticed in my vast terrain collection that I don't have many fantasy buildings.
I don't know why this is the case just maybe something I just did not really think about. I have one or two prices that can fill some space but I feel I need a little more especially after playing Mordheim.

As I am on a quest not to buy anything new and paint/use what I have already in my to do pile I thought I would have a look and see what I can use to make some more buildings.

Painting & Hobby: Industrial Terrain Project

A few years ago I put a cheeky bid on Ebay for a load of industrial terrain which has been used in a fair few Shadow War Armageddon games but has always been that project I have not got round to.

You can see the Ebay horde here

As there has been talk of Necromunda and as I was in the mood for a project I thought it was time to work through it.

Terrain Build: Undead Hill

This week I got a bit of a terrain bug and decided to make a new terrain/diorama piece for games and for any miniature pictures.

A few years ago I made a backdrop for my pictures which you can see how I made here but I wanted to go with some hight and a differnt theme this time so decided on making an undead hill.

This is how I made it.

Terrain Build: Floating Rocks

This week there was no Path To Glory so I thought I would show you how i made the floating rocks from our last game.

The idea for the last scenario as that would be floating rocks and the warbands would be fighting on and jumping around on them.
Nothing says fantasy like fighting on flying rocks right.

Unfortunately Riot did not have the time to make these before the game so I volunteered to make them for the campaign as I never turn down an opportunity to make some terrain.

You can see the battle report they were used in here.

So I started by using some old Kingspan foam and a CD for an idea for the size of each rock.

Terrain Build: Oil Silos

I have been sorting through some of my terrain and had the bug to make something new for my gaming table.
Looking in my terrain box I noticed I still had a few bits to make left over from the MDF terrain from ebay.

The perticulcer kits I have left call for pringles crisp tins to be used as the main structure but as I dont eat them and I'm more into coffee and have been collecting the tins for some reason I decided to use these to build the Silo Station kit.

A Miniature Backdrop Build...

I got a little creative the other day.
I have a light box which has been working well for pictures  but sometimes you want to set a scene so I thought with the extra foam board I have from a DIY project why don't I make a scenic backdrop for my photos.

I decided to go for a natural setting allowing the backdrop to be used for different game systems and looked at doing a side of a mountain or rock wall.

Lets start with base..

Toxic Pool Terrain Build.

Carrying on with my January terrain building I wanted to have a go at making some terrain from scratch.
After watching Luke APS on youtube I thought I would have a go at making some Toxic pools ideal for the planned Shadow War Armageddon game coming up.

In the video most of the bits needed come form the pound shop or The Works which luckily one has just opened near me.

At Salute this year I treated my self to some 4 Ground Terrain.

One was this Backstreet Hovel and a nice looking Well to go with it.

Auto Shop.. a £1 shop journey for Cars as terrain.

So now I have batman its time to think of terrain as most of the bits that I have are more fantasy or just futuristic.

Mantic recently released the Walking dead all out war game and a new upgrade terrain set that has plastic cars and other bits like fences and loot tokens. Now at £18 its not bad for what you get but I wanted to see what I can do on the cheap.

Off I went to my local pound shop and stumbled upon these police cars which come in 3 styles. These looked the right scale and at £1 worth a go. So I got 2 packs and set about getting these ready.

First Job was to unscrew the wheels and get the police lights off.

I put the cars in some water to get the stickers off and cleaned up the plastic ready for a spray.

First I undercoated all the cars black as well as the seats and underside of the car.

Once these dried I grabbed all my other army painter sprays and started to give each car their new paint job.

I used army painter Dragon red, Leather brown, Uniform Grey and Wolf Grey.

After they dried they all looked like this.

Fresh of the painting room floor!

Not bad for a few hours work and a couple of pounds. I think they turned out great.

Heres some action shots..

I could defiantly go to town on these adding more detail to the lights etc even maybe get some more and reck them slightly. Loads of ideas for these at the moment.

I could even do a purple lamborghini ....

Looks like I better run back to the pound shop tomorrow and get some more.

The Big Battle Board Build.

For the last 2 years I have been waiting on a Kickstarter battle board from Games and Gears and have been collecting various bits of terrain in preparation.

Now I am not going to go into a large rant about it here as it's just to long and tiering. So if you want to see the project you can look at Game and Gears battle boards Kickstater on line and see all the comments and calamities.

Anyway after years of delays they finally have said that they may not be able to send me my 6x4 plastic battle board ( I would have to have chosen the last one to get released and not made)
It was supposed to be six 2X2 boards that clip together  which had trays around the edge for dice and holding cards and minis etc.

After receiving this news (people were not happy!!) I though right I am going to make my own.

So I went to my garage and found some off cuts of wood and popped along to B&Q to get 2 6X2 mdf boards to make my gaming table.

For those who are masters at DIY look away now....

Here is the finished 6x4 Board.

I started off by making a frame around each board. Along the bottom I used the timber to add a bit of hight and support.

The frame also gave the board a little edge which stops dice from falling off and frames each piece nicely which is handy when using a mat on the board.

I then drilled holes through the two middle sections along the bottom of each board to fit bolts. This will allow me to connected both boards together and make it easier to store the boards separately.

Having done this the board still bent a little in the middle if you put to much weight on it. I added some brackets on the joints of the board where each board edge met which stopped this.

This was my first ever board build and made it with out any plans (silly I know). As I used scraps and tried to keep it as cost effective as possible I feel it turned out ok.

It might have been easier to get two 4x2 boards instead as the split of the boards would have gone vertically. This would have been more stable when putting the board on the table but for the same price as two 4x2 I got these 6x4 and bigger is better..

Next time I think I would use 2x1 for the sides and bottom so I could add some hinges. Then it could be a folding table.

Now it just needs its first game and luckily Ed is free and is coming to play some X wing..
