Unboxing: The Walking Dead Here's Negan By Mantic Games

Mantic Games are back with a new game called Here's Negan.

Set in the World of The Walking Dead the game is focused around a group of Survivors that must work together to clear out and secure an abandoned factory called The Sanctuary while holding off walkers.
Players must complete their objectives before the treat level reaches its maximum or the game is over.
Over seeing this task is Negan himself checking that all things are moving forward and rewarding those who pleases him and punishing that don't.

As players progress their actions will grant them reputation points and at the end the player with the highest reputation will be Negan's Lieutenant.
So you better have eyes at the back of your head as there could be a double cross awaiting you....

The game is set for 1-5 players and has narrative scenarios you can play as a one off or as a campaign and with the more players the difficulty of the situation rises.

Lets have a look whats inside the box.

As you open the box you are greeted with 2 sheets of 116 tokens which have various Doors, Loot tokens, Walker tokens and the Threat tracker for the game.

On this sheet you get your  Threat tracker, Activation tokens, Stamina tokens, Security tokens, + - Action tokens, Supply tokens, Walker entry tokens, Exit token, Barricades and Air vents as well as fire tokens and a weapons locker.

This sheet has all the Doors, Gasoline barrels and various tokens for a First Aid Station and Loading bay and Walker tokens.

The box has a nice plastic insert which holds everything in place when packed away.

The rule book is full colour and has a quick reference on the back to help speed up play.
There are 12 scenarios which can be played as a one off or as part of a campaign..There is even a survivor mode..

There are various cards in this game with around 106 to be exact. There are character cards that help track health and abilities as well as a special Negan card and deck as Negan is a non playable character in this game and a Walker reference card.

There are also supply and event cards as well as the dice which will be familiar for those who already played The Walking Dead Miniatures Game.

You also receive some plastic baggies to put all of your tokens in and a dial that fits on the threat tracker.

There are also 5 red clips that fit on the side of the character cards which indicate how much Reputation you have with Negan as you don't want to be on his bad side.

These clips slide along the cards but the cards them selfs are a little thin so these could wear away the sides I feel but will have to see after a few plays.

You also get 16 cardboard tiles which are on thick card stock and are double sided.
I noticed at the bottom there is some numbers but looking through the rule book theres no indication what these mean. Maybe these were to help with set up but forgot to be added in the main rule book which is a shame as this would make it even easier to set up.

Lets look at the miniatures..

The group of Survivors led by Negan!

At the start of your turn you are given the first player token which is Negan's weapon of choice Lucille.

As you can see these have some nice detail  and are the same size as the TWD game.
There are a few bends here and there on some of the weapons and a slight bend to the Lucile token which can be fix with some hot water no doubt.

Next up we have 12 unique Walkers which are in a green colour so easily identified for game set up.

The painters out there will have fun with all these but again these do suffer from bending of some parts of the base which hot water again should solve.

So my thoughts..

This is going to be my venture into the world of The Walking Dead and you can see this is designed to get people like me a taste of the world and the game.

The miniatures look great even if there are a few bends here and there that need fixing. The Walkers being a differnt colour just makes it easier to quickly identify what you need when playing.
These miniatures will also satisfy the painters out there too as they are full of detail and character.

If like me you pre ordered this you would have received cards that allow you to use Negan and his Survivors in the main Walking Dead Game which is great as I now have access to two games.
I have heard that theses cards will most likely be available through Mantic's Mantic point system in the future.

Taking a quick look at the rules I like that this can be played as a solo game as this is a perfect game to play solo as it has a small foot print and also scales down the difficulty of the game depending on the amount of players playing so adding more re play ability.

It was a good call making Negan a non player character as everyone would have wanted to play him. The mechanics using cards to generate what Negan is going to do and setting him out like a game timer as he is always moving towards the exit gives the added threat.
So its not only Walkers you have to worry about but Negan also. If you don't secure a room in time he wont be happy and you will feel Negans rage and you could have a meeting with Lucile.. but Negan will start swinging at the nearest walkers to help take them out too if you need him.

The game components and box are very good quality wise with the tiles being nice and thick with some great designs fitting the world as well as the the tokens being of the same quality and thickness.
Just reading through the rules I like the random blip style tokens mechanic for the Walkers as this gives that element of randomness and surprise at what around the corner.

I would have liked mantic to have used the numbers at the bottom of the room tiles in the main rule book to help set up the scenarios as this would have made it even easier for people to set up games. I am also waiting to see how the threat tracker clips effect the character cards after a while as the cards are not as thick as the tokens or floor tiles so I hope this wont damage them long term.

If you have been looking at getting into the world of The Walking Dead then Here's Negan is a perfect diving off point for the TWD miniatures game and I am looking forward to playing my first game.
