Mantic Terrain Crate: Kings Of War Vanguard Objectives

Mantic Games have recently been updating their terrain range with Terrain Crate their new affordable plastic pre assembled terrain range.

As Vanguard launched Mantic have created through Terrain Crate 14 objectives and tokens which tie in with the scenarios in the Vanguard rule book.

As readers of this blog maybe aware I love terrain and have done a few projects with Mantic terrain in the past so I could not resist picking these objectives when I was at Mantic HQ.

So lets take look inside the box.

First in the box you get all the tokens which are doubled sided and printed on a nice thick card stock.
Whats handy here is that some have double or triple effects on them so when playing a game of Vanguard theres not lots of tokens all over the table.

So lets take a look at the objectives..
Well first thing you notice is that these are all pre cut a ready to use right out of the box. This is great as if you just wanted to dive straight in to playing a game.

The objectives are presented in a nice moulded plastic tray so these can be stored easy and safely after play.

I did notice however that the plunging stick with the barrel and cannon balls was slightly bent and maybe the plastic tray could be a little lower to stop it from rubbing the box.

So lets take them out of the box and have look..

First up are the 3 Ancient Standing Stones

These stone have some nice details carved into them which will be great with washes to highlight these areas.

On to the Pyre and the detachable Flame

This is a great objective for light the beacon and has some really nice detail on the wooden logs and stone work.
The detachable fire has some nice detail which will look great once painted up.

This is the Captured Princes or if you wanted to use the Pyre why not change it to burn the witch...

Again some lovely detail on this .

This Fallen Spy looks fantastic.

One of may favourite objectives is this Dragon Egg with a little Dragon poking out of the Egg.

This has some great character you just have to choose what colour your Dragon will be..

In the set you get another smaller stone called the Rune Stone.
This again has some inscriptions carved in to it.

What Fantasy game or objective set would be complete with out some treasure..

And of course adventurers need supplies too.

So My thoughts..
First off I must say I really like the box design mantic have created for the Terrain Crate line. It looks fresh and the colours look great and is really eye catching..

The tokens are really nicely laid out and printed well on thick card so will be able to last many games of Vanguard I am sure.
I like that Mantic have thought about having tokens with multiple icons on them so it cuts down the amount of tokens needed on a gaming table.

The objectives are fantastic. I like that they are pre cut so you can play them straight out of the box which saves lots of time.
There is a bit of clean up here and there on theses but not that much at all.
Its also handy to have a plastic tray to fit all the objectives in once you have finished playing as this makes sure they are stored safely.
My only little thing about the tray is that one objective with the cannon ball plunging stick needs to be a little lower to stop it from bending in the box. This could be just an issue with my box though.

Mantic here have done a great job creating objectives for Vanguard which are full of character and are going to be fun to paint as these have lots of details which can be easily picked out and highlighted.
The added ability to be able to use these in other fantasy games to is also another bonus.

If you are looking for the official objectives for Vanguard or need some new fantasy terrain visit
