Company of Iron and a Riot Introduction to Shade Spire

Friday saw the monthly gathering at the Creative Biscuit which this month was Company of Iron night.

I was up against Phil's Grymkin with Lord Long fellow as his commander. As I said in the last blog post I was taking Kovink Joe's Honour Guard... Unfortunately I did not get time to paint my Widowmakers as Christmas shopping took priority.

To the left of us Lano was facing Paul with some Troll on Troll Action.

The scenario was laid out that 2 flags were placed left and right of the table we would have to be base to base and no enemy model  within 3 inches to be able to score a point at the end of the turn. There was also an objective marker that was also worth one point with the same rules.

We both chose the same command card Mission Specialist which allowed us 3 extra inches command and a free extra dice on attack or damage rolls.
I won the role off and deployed.

I deployed Joe and the Winter Guard to the left hand side flag with the Grey Lords in the middle facing the Imp and Long Fellow. The Rattler and my Windowmakers were on the right near the forest.

First activations were getting everything in position the Widowmakers and the Rattle look set to clash and the Pumpkin Heads looked like battling it out with the Winter Guard...
The Grey Lords walk up the middle ready to do battle with Long Fellow.

Now I have not played Grey Lords before and boy where they good at clearing out those Pumpkin Heads. The ice sprays were deadly and cleared a lot of them out but this meant Phil went straight for them and started to get rid of them. Not before one of the Grey Lords took a huge whack at Long Fellow. If only I remembered to use my command cards ability I could get a free boost on my damage roll. I rolled a 6 and with another dice a good chance Long Fellow would have met his end.

Mean while the Widowmakers were being kept occupied and getting chewed up by the Rattler..

The game was really tight and went down to the last roll...The score was 0-0 and I had one Grey Lord contesting the objective but Long Fellow came round and killed him meaning that due to one Pumpkin Head being within 3 inches he score 1 point..

A very close game and really enjoyable you can easily burn through a game in 30 mins once you know the rules and the different scenarios make this great for narrative play.
The rules are very streamlined and makes sure things are not to over powered so for example gun lines where even if your knocked down or injured you just can't be shot off the board and you lose -2 rat if you shoot more the 8 inches away and if you knocked down you still get your full armour.

I defiantly can't wait to play another game with this list and also I want to try my trolls too.

After the game I headed back with Riot of Riotville On Fire blog fame to his gaming den to have a intro game of Shadespire as its on my xmas list.

I had two games and it was such a laugh and really easy to pick up.  The minis are fantastic heightened by Riots paint jobs.

There were some fun moments check out Riots blog to see but I managed to pull off 2 wins.
With everything being on cards and being able to change cards to help you get glory and buff your fighter so your not stuck with things you can't achieve like kill everything by a certain time makes this game is flexible. Its great. I can see people really taking time deck building in this game.
Lets hope Santa thinks I have been a good enough boy to get this under the tree.

A great night of gaming for me and a great way to kick off the weekend...
