Warhammer 40000 Conquest Review

Over the last couple of months there has been a lot of buzz regarding a weekly released Warhammer 40,000 collection magazine called Conquest which is only available in the UK at the moment that will be hitting outlets as well as having a subscrition service.

Pictures have been released online of the first 4 issue with number 1 released today at an amazing
£1.99!!

So whats the hype about then well I managed to grab a copy and I am going to give you a review and my thoughts on this collection.

So lets look at what you get first lets look at the minis.
Well you get here 3 push fit Primaris Space Marines, a starters paint brush and 3 full size paint pots of Abaddon Black, Macragge Blue and Retrbutor Armour.

Now the paint pots surprised me as going back to the early 2000's I remember getting the Lord Of The Rings magazine and this came with a miniature and the tiny plastic pots you get in Airfix kits. To see these in this issue which are around £2.40 each is amazing value.

Adding the cost of the Primaris Marines the paint and the brush this has to be at least a value of £20.

Now lets look at the magazine you get.

The magazine looks to be designed to go in a folder like most of these weekly subscription magazines do. Inside you have the normal subscribe advert which in this case if you subscribe to issue 2 you get issue 3 for free.
There is also another advert which I think is smart is a if you need help and lists all the GW stores which is a grate move to get new players into the stores.

The magazine is full colour covering the world of 40k and the battles with a little history of the Ultramarines and background as well as other chapters and a little about the Marines in this issue which are the Intercessors.
There is also a poster with a huge Marine on it but it also shows you whats coming up in the next 4 issues and beyond.

It then goes on to give a guide on to how to build you new miniatures which is easy to follow and how to paint them.
Now as before some of these magazines show you that you need more then the paint you have to get your new miniatures ready to play but what I like about this magazine is they show you step by step how to paint your Marines with the 3 paints you have and with no spary can in sight.

It ends with a little tease on the last page about the Eve of Battle gearing you up for the next issue which feature the Death Guard.

So My Thoughts...

What can I say for £1.99 this is a bargain and a great way to get someone in to the world of 40k.
The shear value you get with the 3 minis the paints and brush is fantastic and issue 2 still only being £4.99 with 3 Death Guard, Dice and some more paint is still a grate deal.

The regular price I believe will be around £7.99 and as its weekly could be a bit of a stretch for some but looking at this long term if you were interested in this I would go down the subscription route as its planned to get a lot of free extras like modelling tools, brushes etc There is even rumblings of subscription special edition miniatures as well.

There is also a premium subscription which is an extra £1.50 on top which gives you more extras per issue like a gaming board, dice and stat cards etc.

Looking at overall cost there is plans to be 80 issues and from what has been rumoured this will include all this below which can save around £100 in total.

I dont know if some issues will spread out vehicles or terrain over a few issues yet but time will tell.

To sum up if you decided just to get the first 4 issues of this magazine you would at least get the contents of the First Strike starter set which comes in at £25 but with this magazine you do get extras like the paints and brush etc which would cost you a lot more in total if you just got First Strike and the paints separately.

If your into 40k or wanted to dip your toe this is defiantly worth a look...
