Warhammer 40000 Conquest Magazine Issue 2 Review

Issue 2 of Warhammer 40000 Conquest Magazine has just arrived in stores this week.
In this issue it introduces the Death Guard!

This issue has gone up to £4.99 compared to issue one (review here) but even at this price its is still worth the money.

So lets have a look what we have.

In this Issue you get 3 Death Guard which are the new sculpts which are bulky and full of detail which again are easy fit.
3 bases, 6 dice and a pot of Death Guard Green paint.

The miniatures look great and have lots of character with all the mutations and the different weapons.

The paint again is a full size pot pot which gives the essential base colour and look to these marines.

The dice are ok a little plasticky like from a christmas cracker and the quality is not that fantastic as one of the pips on the 5 side rubbed off but will work fine if you don't have any.

Lets take a look at the magazine.

In the magzine this week it explains the backgound to the Death Guard and The Plague Planet where the Death Guard inhabit.
The magazine is in full colour and really gives the reader a good idea who the Death Guard are.

As you read through there is another guide on how to build your new miniatures and a paint guide which uses your new Death Guard Green and two paints from issue one Abaddon Black and Retributor Armour.

Also in this issue it explains how to take your first steps playing Warhammer 4000.

Included with the magazine you get a game mat which is double sided with one side with pre printed terrain and the other blank.

You also get on the sides 2 rulers and objective markers.
The size of the mat will fit any dinner table easily and folds away neatly to a A4 pice of paper.

The mat is made from card stock and feels decent enough to take a fair few games before starting to deteriorate.

The mat side with the printed terrain is used in the magazine to explain how to do the basics in the game which in this issue concentrates on moving and shooting.

The little stat boxes they have made on the get started page for the rules for each side is real easy to understand and use.
Also whats interesting is they have also added extra rules which add the weapon stats for each Death Guard and Intercessor they are modelled with once you get used to the rules.

At the back of the book it teases issue 3 and 4 with rules for close combat to be introduced in issue 3.

So my thoughts..

Again this is grate value for money.
The dice are a little cheap feeling and had some ink rubbed off one of the pips but are fine just to get you started.

I was surprised by the mat being card as I thought it would be paper but I do have a little niggle which is having a fold in the 1 inch marker on the ruler for the Marine player ruler.
I do like that side 2 is blank which allows you to use your own terrain and use the terrain that will be coming in future issues.

The magazine explains well who the Death Guard are and has another good how to build and paint section with the paints you have been given so far.

The explanation on how to play is easy to follow and I like the way it has concerted on moving and shooting at first also the inclusion of using the proper weapon profiles for each miniature once you get the hang of the mechanics will keep players interested till issue 3.

So all in all another good issue.

Next up issue 3 and introducing the Reivers...
